Cordless Phones
Cordless phones, or DECT phones, are an integral part of most homes. But what is DECT and how does the cordless element of these phones work? DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications; and as the name suggests, a standard for digital, cordless, communication of voice and multimedia traffic using radio frequencies in the 1.8GHz and 1.9GHz frequency ranges. DECT delivers high quality voice communication, and integrates with Internet services, ISDN, and GSM, without interference with WiFi; wireless devices operating in the 2.4GHz, or 5.8GHz, frequency bands.

DECT Cordless Phones Features & Benefits
DECT cordless phones work by establishing a wireless connection to a base station, which may support a single phone, or multiple phones. Additional phones require a station for battery charging, but beyond that, no additional phone sockets are required. So once you have established this basic connection, a cordless phone user is able to freely move throughout the home or office.
DECT technology is the conduit between cordless phones and wireless, cellular phones, as each base station creates its own short range cell. DECT phones automatically search for the highest quality channel and switch to it automatically. The DECT standard also include the GAP protocol, which means that DECT cordless phones can be used, interchangeably, between GAP enabled systems, regardless of manufacturer. DECT cordless phones often allow up to 8 hours talk time on a single charge, and feature a low battery indicator. DECT cordless phones can be used as much as up to 1000m from the base station.
